A major IT outage linked to issues with Microsoft 365 has caused widespread disruption across various sectors, including banking, airlines, train companies, and media outlets globally.
Key Impacts:
- Airlines: Ryanair has reported flight delays and urged passengers to arrive at airports three hours before departure. US airlines, including American Airlines, Delta, and United, have also experienced disruptions.
- Train Services: TransPennine Express and Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) have alerted passengers to ticketing issues and advised purchasing tickets onboard.
- Media: Sky News was briefly taken off air, and Frontier Airlines' website was down.
- Healthcare: Doctor's surgeries in the UK, such as Church Lane Surgery in West Yorkshire, are unable to access patient records or book appointments.
- Digital Payments: Australia's digital payment systems have been hit, with some stores unable to process card payments.
The disruption has been linked to a technical issue with Microsoft's cloud service, Azure, and cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike.
